Welcome to the Enlightenment page - the site where you can get information about Enlightenment, and any other desktop enhancing programs for X-Windows.

The main purpose of these pages is, of course, to support and distribute Enlightenment, a Window Manager for X, whose purpose is to be the most configurable and best looking desktop management program, whilst at the same time being as lean, fast and portable as possible (given the natural price to pay for more features and power).

Enlightenment has been written from the ground up. It is not based on any code from any other window manager, unlike the majority of window managers in existance. This makes it suffer much less from code bloat and makes it able to operate much faster despite its extra workload.

Enlightenment uses Imlib as its low-level Image loading and rendering library, that was written specifically to improve the ease of loading multiple image formats and generating pixmaps for programs to use. This provides a powerful core shared library, that not only can be used for Enlightenment, but many programs needing to load images and display them. If you are a developer, take a look at Imlib.

On these pages you will find a lot of information, not just on Enlightenment, but on other useful programs for X-Windows, that help make UNIX a better place to work and live in.

If you wish to contact me, you can join #E on efnet on IRC, the official Enlightenment IRC channel, which I at times visit. Otherwise you can mail the Enlightenment Mailing-List.
